Yeah, I think the societal/moral aspect is where the disagreement ultimately lies, but then I do find it disappointing if there’s no counterpoints (Not to say I am giving any hard points, but that it’s a direction I would hope things to progress to, you know? Kinda bounce back and forth.)
That’s alright, though, I know it’s not everyone's cup of tea to get into this type of conversation, full respect to that
Even my views of it being personal preference I think it is still interesting. I look at it in a similar vein as shipping content increasing in fandom spaces. In my experience there used to be a lot more variety.
I think this shift is probably connected? But again it’s at best a hypothesis. At worst, a gut feeling.
To me it’s offputting because it’s inserting vital things into less important topics, which is frustrating. I wouldn’t mind understanding all the hard facts of the situation that people draw from to reach these conclusions so it could be less offputting or anything, but to be sure, it is a different kind of offputting than the things I do view as societal ills (the horrors)
The only further clarification I have is that I tend to rb posts like this in hopes of an ongoing convo, so the idea of adding a bit more and more over time. It'll probably always be 'saying very little' initially. So there's probably gonna be disagreement about rb etiquette as well in there. Especially something like this if I can't fully grasp the meaning of it? In which case on correction it can branch off into a new direction. But I won't know if I don't say anything either way, so I view it as fine to add onto
i dont really know how to articulate this but its crazy just how many people dont even realize they dont care about female characters. all their faves are men. they never talk about girls without being led into it. and when you try to point this out to them they try to defend themselves that their faves are just the archetypes they like, despite clearly not caring when that same archetype is a woman. like i feel like at a certain point it is your problem with the common denominator if you cant find a single female character to enjoy
